Some days ago I had to explain to a Congolese priest that Barbados is an island in the anglophone Caribbean. The gentleman has apparently never heard of Barbados in his whole life. I had to explain by e-mail that Barbados is not a part of Spain. Unfortunately, the German post officer who sold him the stamps for a letter he had to send me definitely convinced him after consulting his infallible computer: "Barbados liegt doch in Spanien." Nothing else could help, not even the mail address itself. An initial E was added on the envelope. For the time being the letter is lost somewhere in Spain whereas I here in Barbados am still waiting for it. Will it ever arrive? I don't think so but I am still hopeful.
