27 July 2020. Former PM of Barbados, the late R. Hon. Owen Arthur passed away at QEH, Bridgetown, Barbados. May his soul rest in peace. Professor of Practice. Mr Arthur (1949-2020) was a great man of the Caribbean who served Barbados as PM for almost fourteen years, winning consecutively three times the national general elections. Nobody has done better in the history of Barbados. Barbados mourns for the passing of one of its greatest leaders. The University of the West Indies he served as lecturer and professor at Mona and Cave Hill, mourns for the loss of one of its best academic builders. Not only he contributed intellectually, he also fully supported the expanding and the excellent transformation of the physical site of the Cave Hill Campus. The former leader of the BLP (Barbados Labour Party) will be remembered as one who passionately loved his country and the Cariibbean, and who dedicated his life to the development of this part of the world. A very simple guy you could meet shopping at Supercentre or with whom you could use the elevator in the Caricom Building of the Cave Hill Campus or who even would greet and kindly ask you how you are doing. For his latest appointment this man chaired the Board of Directors of LIAT, the Caribbean Airline Company. I spoke to him for the first time at the inaugural of the African section of the Barbados National Museum back in 2002 it my memory is correct. He played an important role to promote Africa awareness in Barbados. An outstanding politician with vision and wisdom.
Extending my condolences to his family and the People of Barbados, I pray the Lord to grant him eternal peace and rest.
