Stephen Keshi, Pride for Africa

Stephen Okechukwu Keshi (31 January 1961 – 7 June 2016). The Coach of Nigeria who won the 2013 CAN Edition passed away yesterday. May his soul rest in peace! What a thunder over African Football! It is not the first time I am writing on him. I knew him at the time he was a player, as a defender for Nigeria. I noticed his skills as a great "Boss": he remains one of the best defenders in the history of  African football. He belongs to the happy few ones who have won the African Cup of Nations as a player and a trainer.
While paying tribute to Stephen Keshi I salute a proud Nigerian who gave all for the sake of his country, serving his fellow citizens with what he had mastered best: Football. He also coached the national team of Togo in 2011. Let me make a statement I have been repeating since many years: I am convinced that Africa does not need European trainers to coach our national teams. It is a matter of pride and realism. No African will ever coach the national team of France, Germany or Italy. Why should the contrary be backed? We do have our own fellow citizens who are able to perfectly do the job. Africa has to value her own sons and daughters in all areas of performance, by providing them with the same rights and work conditions as it is done with foreigners.
Bye Stephen! You have taught a great lesson of diligence, patriotism and love for Africa. Your name will never be forgotten. Rest in God's peace!
