October 11, 2020. A short and striking message came this morning from Patricia: "My husband has passed away". We were all shocked at hearing this sad news. "Patrica, Heartfelt Condolences to you and family. May his soul rest in peace!"
Dr Augustin Hatarimana joined the Cave Hill Campus in 2011 to teach drama and film at the EBCCI (Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination). As soon as we met, we connected very well at personal or family levels. We used to meet at many occasions and places for a barbecue, a drink, family reunions or African social events. He was the one who convinced me to subscribe to the gym. Whereas Ibangu was closed to Joy and Liana, Mukawa got along with Christus. We used to discuss a lot, consult with each other and solve problems together. We spent a great time until he resigned and decided to leave Barbados for personal reasons. I was in his confidence. Unfortunately, when he arrived to Tanzania, things did not go the best way. He felt ill. He fought till today. May his soul rest in peace.
Hatar and I continued to interact. He had a plan to invite me to the University of Dar es Salam in the framework of a collaboration between our two universities but for reasons you can imagine, it never happened. I know that he bought a property and built a house. Aline is a graduate of D es S university. Alice studies in Canada. Joy, presently a MD of a Chinese University and is back to Tanzania. Liana is the mom of two beautiful kids. Chris attends a minor seminary. Patricia is now left alone to care for all her children. May the Lord give her strength and wisdom to face life with a faithful perspective!
Here some messages from him: "Hope you are well. Have not yet heard from Harclyde. As for school we just registered in a Seminary, still on standby for Bb. Undergoing major surgery today. Pray for me. " (23 March 2019).
"Very Happy New Year 2020. We made it thanks to you & your prayers." (1 Jan 2020).
Rest in peace dear friend and brother Hatar
